Neye Fonden has awarded Associate Prof. Maria Rusan 554.880 DKK in support of the following project: “3D Tumor Avatars for Drug Sensitivity Testing and Molecular Studies in Children with Aggressive Cancers”

Survival rates for children with malignant brain tumors and sarcomas (tumors of the bone, muscle or connective tissue) continue to be low despite intensive treatment. The aim of this project is to test selected drugs on cancer cells, derived from children with these aggressive cancer types, and which are cultured in the laboratory in 3D (3D tumor avatars). Recent studies demonstrate significant potential for these 3D-models in predicting treatment responses and advancing precision medicine. Establishing this platform could identify additional treatment options, spare some patients unnecessary treatments, and contribute to the development of novel treatment strategies. Additionally, it will enable research to better understand the molecular and biological characteristics of these tumor types.
